Privacy Policy

Somnr is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Somnr app to track your Energy Age, log crashes, and improve your sleep and energy habits.

Somnr is local-first: your energy, sleep, and crash data lives on your device. We collect limited anonymous analytics to understand how the app is used:

• Device information (model, OS version, language)
• Usage statistics (features used, session frequency)

We do not store your health data, sleep data, or crash records on our servers, except for the two optional features described below (AI Sleep Coach and anonymous sleep summaries), which only run if you turn them on.

The AI Sleep Coach writes a short morning read of your night, answers the questions you ask it in the coach chat, and writes a weekly review of your sleep. It is off by default and only runs after you turn it on in the app. You can turn it off at any time in Settings.

When it is on, the app sends a summary of your sleep to our server each time a read is requested: sleep and wake times, durations, estimated sleep stages, derived metrics (awakenings, restlessness, snoring minutes, sleep debt), your Sleep Score, and the answers you gave during onboarding (goals, habits, first name and age if you provided them). Raw motion data, audio recordings and location never leave your phone. When you ask the coach a question, the app also sends the text of your question and the earlier messages of that conversation. For the weekly review, it sends the same kind of summary aggregated over the week.

Our server forwards this summary to Anthropic, PBC (Claude), which acts as a service provider processing the data on our behalf to generate the read. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, this data is not used to train their models. Generated reads and weekly reviews are stored on our server, linked to your anonymous user ID, so a night or a week is only processed once. Chat conversations are not stored on our server: they stay on your phone. You can delete everything the coach holds about you at any time from Settings (Delete my data), or contact us at the address below.

The AI Sleep Coach is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice or diagnosis.

If you turn on "Improve accuracy for everyone" in Settings, per-night summary metrics (durations, stages, derived scores) are stored on our server under your anonymous user ID to improve sleep detection for all users. No audio, raw motion data or location is included. This is off by default and can be turned off at any time.

Somnr requests optional read-only access to HealthKit to retrieve sleep data and step count. This data is used to calculate your Sleep Score and is not transmitted to our servers or shared with third parties, unless you turn on one of the optional features above, in which case only the derived summaries described there are sent. You can deny HealthKit access at any time, the app will fall back to self-reported data.

When you share a video URL into Somnr via the iOS share extension, the URL is sent to our backend for transcription and step extraction. Processed content is used solely to generate your routine verdict and is not stored after delivery.

Somnr offers subscriptions managed via RevenueCat and Apple's App Store. Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store billing information or card details.

We do not sell your data. We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf to run the app (hosting and authentication, subscription management, anonymous analytics, and, if you turn it on, the AI Sleep Coach described above). Data may also be disclosed if required by applicable law.

You can use Somnr without creating an account. Your on-device data (Sleep Score history, crash records, sleep data) can be deleted at any time from Settings or by uninstalling the app. Data stored on our server through the optional features above can be deleted on request. You may disable analytics via your device settings.

All server communications use HTTPS encryption. On-device data is stored using expo-secure-store and AsyncStorage, which leverage iOS Data Protection.

This policy may be updated. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notice.
